Quote Some thoughts after watching the Gossip Girl season finale and my thoughts on CB in general (though with series finale spoilers) because I have no life. It's kinda long, I didn't plan on it but it just sorta happened. You have been warned! *g*

I just realized how much CB is the reason I watch this show. When they weren't on screen I found myself pretty bored with this episode.

The good:
+ Bedhead!Chuck Bass!!! And of course Chuck Bass in general. Awesome as always.

+ CB!!! There is more about them and their relationship further down.

+ For the first time (or maybe 2nd if you want me to be absolutely honest) Nate/Serena actually appealed to me. I don't know if it's because of the fact that I'm just so sick of Serena/Dan or something else... but yeah. It could be because Chuck/Blair/Nate/Serena scenes are kinda fun to watch and I actually don't mind Serena in those scenes.

+ Nate and Chuck are friends again! I'm so happy about that because I'm always sad when people who have been friends for a long time suddenly aren't anymore for whatever the reason. Plus, they need each other because when they're not friends they walk around looking like little lost puppies.

+ And actually Nate in general should be here, he's grown on me latley and I loved that he could be happy for Blair and Chuck and also seem quite happy with himself despite what his family is going through.

The bad:
- Serena/Dan. I only have one word: BORING! Jenny also falls into the same category...

- Rufus/Lily. They can be cute at times but in this episode it just felt so forced and awkward. I mean the whole "I love you" "I love you too" and then they both smile as Lily goes off and marries someone else? Nothing came from it.

- Nate/Vanessa. I didn't really care either way about this ship but way to end it abruptly without any real explanation, even though I guess it was sorta hinted why they broke up.

- The introduction of Amelia. And not because she may or may not have ruined CB but litterary the way she was brought in to the room by Lily. All I could see was Lily and Bart having previously sat down together, plotting against Chuck, saying something like "first we give Chuck this big speech about responsibility and then let's introduce him to Amelia and see how he handles it!" and I so don't think that was the point. It was probably meant to be just a coincidence that Chuck and Amelia met. But the timing of it all (when Bart had just finished his speech) and Lily's and Bart's happy smiles and laughs and the background music made me feel like they had somehow planned it, which I really don't think they would so yeah... That whole scene just confused me.

- The girl's clothes. All the boys looked awesome but seriosly, the dresses Serena, Blair and Vanessa wore? Serena wore a perfectly fine one in the beginning of the episode that she later changed for the most horrible dress ever. It makes me want to scratch my eyes out! And Vanessa's wasn't much better, it was so bright and... fluffy. Blair's was definatley the best one out of the three but it was still a little too much with the huge flower and all the pink acessories. But Lily's wedding dress was awesome!

Chuck/Blair:
I really enjoyed CB in this episode and I also realized how much they are the reason I watch the show, because the scenes that didn't have C and/or B in them were kinda boring. The scene from the sneak peak is still so cute with their banter and I also loved Blair adjusting Chuck's bow-tie, Chuck's speech and their conversation after, with the dancing and the kiss (that was interrupted by Dan and Serena! I was like "no, don't interrupt our CB moment with those two!"). And I liked Blair's little comments about Chuck, like "abscense makes the heart grow fonder". Earlier the feelings has been much more clear from Chuck but now Blair showed her feelings too. She even kissed Chuck in public and didn't mind that others could see them together.

But of course the ending wasn't the happy one it could have been, but come on did we really expect it? I can agree with people who thought the ending cheapened the rest of the episode, because Chuck basically told Blair he loves her only to stand her up for another girl, but I'm still actually going to defend the writers a little. The fact that they used CB as the major cliffhanger shows that they know how much people like those two together, so I'm sure there will be lots more CB in season 2.

I know a lot of people mentioned that it would be OOC for Chuck to suddenly be the perfect boyfriend for Blair. I partly agree with that, because he is Chuck Bass after all but he also has changed since the beginning of the season and showed several times that he can be caring and loyal. If you need examples just look at what he did for Nate in this episode or Serena in the last two or listen to the speech he gave, inspired by the moment. Or if that's not enough for you, listen to Blair! She said it herself that Chuck had been a perfect gentleman for the past week. So why did Chuck act the way he did? Well, I think what Bart Bass is to blame.

First of all, Bart should know better than to list all the words his son has been scared of facing his entire life and personifying them in Blair. Bart knows his son and if he actually thinks Blair is good for Chuck - which was the impression I got from him - he should ba able to realize that saying all those things after just one week would scare Chuck. Chuck can definitely change but he needs baby steps (he even told Blair they should take it slow!), and he was taking baby steps towards changing before Bart made a giant leap ahead.

Secondly, Chuck is 17 and of course he wants to have fun! He can have that with Blair and the rest of the upper east siders, but the way Bart worded his little speech probably made it sound to Chuck like he would have to grow up entirely during one summer, never go to a party again and be stuck with Blair for the rest of his life. If you ask me the "stuck with Blair for the rest of his life" part isn't a bad thing, but I get it if Chuck is a little freaked out about it for now because of the fact that Blair is his first real girlfriend. It's a little similar to the way I'm guessing Julie felt about Matt in FNL. Or Logan and Veronica in the way they would break up, find other love interests but still always be drawn back to each other.

And then we have Amelia. I'd like to believe Chuck doesn't do anything too bad with her, like he starts kissing her only to realize he misses Blair. Or stops only with flirting. But maybe that wouldn't be very Chuck - yet anyway (remember the baby steps?). But like Chuck said in his speech, he hopes he'll be given the "gift of a second chance" and he probably meant it for what had happened up until that point, but the reason their relationship didn't really work out before were probably both their faults, so Chuck wasn't the only one who needed a second chance at that point but he can be given one in the future. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if when the show is over it turns out that speech can sorta summarize their relationship as a whole. They can't give up on each other before they've figured out all their issues and until then they have to give each other second chances. And speaking of issues, Blair is probably not over Nate entirely with the way she acted jealous over Vanessa... So, like I said, they have a lot to work out before they can be a real couple.

Long story short: this episode gave me hope for lots of CB in season 2!

And there you have it for now. I may have just given this show too much credit and deep thought but I didn't feel like doing homework so I started on this and yeah, it became longer than I thought... Written procrastination!

Oh and did you hear this little rumor about a possible GG convention in the UK? I'd love to go if Ed was on the guest list. He should be since it's in the UK! *g*

[ETA:] I just fixed some typos and clariefied some things that I realized I had written in a very complicated way before. Nothing major, it's still pretty much the same as before. [/ETA]
