So, here is the promised movie review of PotC3! Sorry it's late, but livejournal wouldn't le me post earlier for some reason! Movie spoilers behind the cut!
I'd probably rate this movie 3/5. It was definatley better than the 2nd one, but #2 and #3 probably work best together (if you look at them as one really long movie divided into two parts!) The first movie is still the best one though!
Since it was premiere day it was really crowded and after the movie I listened to some people's converstations. People had lots of different opinions about the movie - everything from "OMG! Best. Movie. Ever." to "Ugh, what are they doing?".
I think what the people behind these movies need to stop trying to make every sequel better than it's prequels. That only results in endless action scenes with lots of explosions that looks great but gets boring in the rong run. I'm sure everyone would settle for movies that are equal to the first one. First of all it's a complete story on it's own (#2 and #3 kinda depend on each other), secondly it has many plot twists but still not too many, as a viewer you know what's going on. It has the action but it doesn't drag on for ages and it blends the action smoothly with comedy and drama. Of course this movie also includes all Jack's funny lines, the comic pirates and the romance between Will and Elizabeth, but with the long action scenens everything seems to drag on forever.
In the 3rd movie there are so many plot lines that in the end you're not really sure who wants what and why. In the beginning of the movie "save Jack" is the main storyline (like we couldn't guess after the 2nd movie!). After that they realize they need to bring all pirates together to save the Caribbean from Lord Beckett who's killing off pretty much everyone who's done as much as mention the word "pirate". And from there things get a little more complicated. No, a lot more complicated. To really keep up with all the storylines and plot twists you have to watch the movie again!
In the end everyone of our heroes got what they wanted (or at least I think so. Did I mention the complicated storylines?). Will and Elizabeth end up together (like we wouldn't have guessed that either) but there's a twist to it (mostly concerning Will)! Jack sails off to the horizon and the movie is over. (People applauded.) It's not the same cliff-hanger ending that movie #2 had but they still left everything wide open for the possibility of a 4th movie...!
